Management of Knee Osteoarthritis with Hyaluronic injections:
Hyaluronic acid injections (HA).
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, Knee OA is normally seen in adults over 50 who experience a painful and stiff knee at times. The pain may feel worse at the end of the day, or when you move your knee, and it may improve when you rest. You might have some stiffness in the morning, but this won’t usually last more than half an hour. X-rays can help confirm a diagnosis of knee OA but are not compulsory.
Musculoskeletal Injection Conditions
Corticosteroid injections are effective for the management of the below conditions:
If you have been suffering or diagnosed with any of these musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and want to be assessed for a corticosteroid injection then please book in.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found within the human body and a major component of normal synovial fluid. It stores moisture, acting as a lubricant between body tissues to prevent the build-up of friction.
In a healthy joint, your synovial fluid acts as a shock absorber, providing lubrication and allowing your bones to glide smoothly against each other without rubbing together.
If you have osteoarthritis, the hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid breaks down, losing some of its elastic properties. The synovial fluid can no longer cushion the joints, and this can cause the pain and stiffness usually associated with osteoarthritis.
If you have confirmed mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis and painkillers or physiotherapy haven’t improved your joint pain, you may be suitable for a knee injection. This treatment is usually offered as part of a multi lifestyle advice package (nutrition and exercise) required to maximize the injection benefits.
If your suffering with any of the above. Book your appointment into Thursdays injection clinic.
